DraftSight Mechanical(SNL Network)- Draw in 2D and 3D, and enhance models with part references for accurate BOM management
DraftSight Mechanical is an efficient and user-friendly 2D CAD solution that supports common design workflows and offers advanced 3D modelling capabilities. View, create, and manage 2D drawings and 3D models within DraftSight Mechanical, ensuring accurate BOM with part references and callouts.
Key features include:
- Minimal learning curve
- Customisable user interface
- Comprehensive API
- Flexible licensing options
- Cost-effective alternative to AutoCAD
- 2D design and drafting capabilities
- Image vectorisation
- Drawing comparison and smart dimensioning
- API and AutoLISP support
- Transition between 2D drafting and 3D modelling
- Export to STL or SAT for 3D printing
- Create complex 3D surfaces and geometries
- Parametric control with geometric and dimensional constraints
- Define relationships between entities and control dimensions
Part References
Part references add intelligence to 2D entities so they will be treated as a separate part for bill of material tracking. Make or update existing part properties such as number, description, vendor, etc.
BOM & Parts List
The BOM aggregates all part references for the drawing. Create new and update existing BOMs that detail properties of the components such as part number and quantity. The parts list is a visual table on the drawing that allows you to organise the BOM to your liking.
Balloons & Frames
Annotate and add notes to your drawings by creating or reorganising balloons associated to a parts list. Frames gives you an easy ability to fit your designs into title blocks with a simplified scaling process.
Why Choose DraftSight Mechanical?
- Save time with the ability to view, create, and manage legacy 2D assembly drawings directly from within DraftSight Mechanical.
- Ensure bill of materials (BOM) accuracy with support for part references and related item callouts created with legacy 2D mechanical CAD applications or DraftSight Mechanical.
- Reduce operating costs by documenting accurate parts lists and assembly instructions, removing the need to locate absent components or correct the assembly process.
- Add intelligence to your 2D entities with part references for accurate BOM management. Modify existing part references and automatically create new ones leveraging the hardware library or user-defined custom blocks.
- Improve the overall accuracy of your assembly drawings with the ability to annotate and label drawings by creating or reorganizing balloons associated with a parts list.
- Maintain compliance with the ability to create 2D drawings that meet international drafting standards such as ANSI, ISO, DIN, JIS, and BSI. Save time by ensuring your layers remain organized and aligned with your standards using the Mechanical Layers Manager and layer groups.
- Flexible Licensing
- Familiar Interface
- Common File Type Support
- Full Support
- Proven ROI
Productivity
DraftSight features the professional tools, functionality, and file compatibility to get your jobs done quickly. Users will find DraftSight faster and lighter than other popular CAD products as it doesn't carry the baggage of a nearly 40-year old product - with the benefits of great tools that don't exist in AutoCAD like PowerTrim and TBLayers.
Value
DraftSight offers choice to provide the best value as not all CAD users have the same needs. DraftSight represents the best value on the market by being a fraction of the price of comparable CAD offerings, and perpetual licensing is available as well as network and subscription options.
Easy Transition
It's easy to make the switch away from AutoCAD - DraftSight will do the work for you. Users will feel comfortable right away with the familiar user interface, minimal learning curve, and support for common commmands, legacy drawings, and complex objects like Dynamic Blocks. Type commands just as you would in AutoCAD, and customise your experience with LISP, AutoLISP, and Visual LISP support.

Windows 10/11
- 8GB RAM (Minimum)
- A 3 core Processor (intel i3 or AMD Ryzen 3 for example)
- Discrete GPU
MacOS 12,13,14 (15 unconfirmed)
- 8GB RAM
- Intel i5 processor or better. All M series chips.
If you are running this through the Network Licence Manager (Dassault Systemes Licence Server or DSLS) then you will need to use either the 2016, 2019, 2022 Windows server or the Windows 10 64Bit.
The 2025 DSLS will be the last year to support the 2016 Windows Server.
Note: Discrete GPU refers to anything that is not built into the motherboard. Usually, this is a different brand to the CPU or processor. Ensure your GPU can handle raytracing. Generally, NVIDIA GPUs that mention RTX and Radeon GPUs that mention RX will be able to handle ray tracing. If you are unsure if your GPU is correct or are looking to purchase a new GPU, feel free to contact our support team for advice.
